Television: just another pointless observation

So I'm stricken with allergy's from the depths. These are the worst. The kind were if you go outside for more than a few seconds, you're throat is coated with an insatiable itch that can not be scratched. So, I am mostly confined to the house. I can be a homebody, but even I have limits. I've been watching a lot of television. I'm probably catching up on the years I didn't in college or something. I mostly watch sports. Tonight I had the Ku football game on the radio in the laundry room, and was flipping back and forth between various other college football teams on the boob tube. I also watched the Women's U.S. Open, something I've never done. I've actually been watching a lot of tennis lately. This might be because when I'm over at Shua's house, he usually has it on; or just because I've been watching just about any sport on tv. Me like this tennis sometime. It's exciting when it's close, and in a tournament, but it can never outmatch the passion of Futbol. Oh yeah, I was gonna make that a whole topic. I totally got the Futbol bug again. Anticipating my brother's first soccer match as a head coach probably got me back on the kick (no pun intended). The night before I watched the 2002 World Cup quarter final between the U.S. and Germany. I was so into it, I had trouble sleeping (also still a little worked up about the hand ball in the goal box that prevented the U.S. from tieing the game, and possiblly winning it as they did the unthinkable by completely out-playing the German side). The next day my brother's high school team lost 0-1, just like the game I had watched the night before, and just like in the World Cup game, my brother's "boys" outplayed their opponents. Fortunately on friday night he got his first win with a 3-0 shalacking. I stood on his kid's side and humorously, and proudly observed his coaching, and his enthusiastic kids eager to turn around their teams mediocre past. I'm totally into this soccer fever again. I want to watch every game.
Of course, it's obvious to point out that NFL American Football starts tommorow, which I'm also excited about. I love the Chiefs. One thing my years in Wichita of all towns taught me was to love the Chiefs. Many a game were spent on the "upper deck" of matt's couches rooting my hereos in Marc Boerigter, Tony Richardson,
Willie Roaf, Priest Holmes, and the rest of the boys.
I realize at this point my post is turning more into an indictment of my sports addiction/distraction from other things, and not about tv in general. The funny thing is I just had one thought about tv I wanted to share, and I though that would get my editorial rolling. I will not change it at this point. This is the beauty (or manly manliness) of my blog, which is the Land Locked Pirate in a nutshell. Random coincedences, random observations, and RARELY what I intended it to be.
Anyway, tonight I was watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers, (and listening to Ku in the background, because, of course my teams are not on tv) some journalist's were interviewing the parents or family (i had the volume off, so i really don't know who they were) and literally during the interview the kid they were referring to sustained what looked like a serious injury. In and of itself, that has never happened, that I know of. But what did the directors decide to do? Keep the freaking camera right in the mother's horrified face as her presumed son lay on the field in pain. She was so upset that she had her face hidden in another (assumed) son's chest, unable to watch. But we, the viewer were allowed an unflinching look at her pain. Strange, and kind of grotesque I thought. Also ironic, and frustrating, that whenever their is a scuffle or a fight on the field, even though that is the most immediate thing happening in the event beign broadcasted, the directors and camera operators will bend over backwards to not show us what's going on, even though we ALL KNOW THEY ARE FIGHTING! Why do they not want us to see that? Surely their not afraid of indecency, holy crap look at our.....(at this point andy got mad at himself for coming SO close to using the word "Society" and the downward spiral the post would inevitably take, so he stopped and got some water to drink thus ending this post in the most unusual manner...

hey Andy,

Melanie, Jodi and Nathor say "hi!" It would have been so cool to see you today if you could have come with Nathan, but alas, your presence was not felt. However, we sent many "Dear God" prayers up in your honor. "Dear God, please let Andy come visit SC sometime soon." Hey, you should come for Homecoming. Sarah D. is coming from S.D. and maybe we can convince Jenny to come up too...it'll be fun...come! We wanted to let you know that we noticed you've been "blogging" with Suzanne. And Suzanne has been "blogging" with you. Care to explain?????
